Diroban is a sterile powder for injection indicated for the treatment of stabilized Class 1a, 2b, and 3c heartworm disease caused by immature (4-month-old, stage L5) to mature adult infections of Dirofilaria immitis in dogs. Diroban is currently the only FDA-approved drug available in the U.S. to treat canine heartworm disease.

Active Ingredients (per vial):
Melarsomine dihydrochloride 50.0 mg
Glycine USP 33.75 mg
Reconstitution:
Each vial, when reconstituted with 2 mL of sterile water for injection (provided), contains 25 mg/mL of active ingredient.
Cautions/Warnings:
Adverse Reactions (Side Effects): In clinical field trials, approximately 30% of treated dogs experienced injection site reactions including pain, swelling, tenderness, and reluctance to move. Most reactions were mild to moderate and resolved within 1 week to 1 month, though severe cases did occur.
Contraindications: Diroban is contraindicated in dogs with very severe (Class 4) heartworm disease, including Caval Syndrome (D. immitis present in the venae cavae and right atrium).
Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
