Lactated Ringer’s Injection Rx USP 1000 ml

Lactated Ringer’s Injection, USP is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution that contains isotonic concentrations of essential electrolytes in water for injection. It may also be available with dextrose to provide minimal carbohydrate calories. This solution is designed as a parenteral fluid, nutrient, and electrolyte replenisher and is intended for single-dose use only. Any unused portion must be discarded.

Key Details:

• Composition (per 100 mL): Sodium chloride 600 mg, sodium lactate (anhydrous) 310 mg, potassium chloride 30 mg, and calcium chloride dihydrate 20 mg. May contain hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment.

• Electrolyte Content (per liter): Sodium 130 mEq, Potassium 4 mEq, Calcium 3 mEq, Chloride 109 mEq, Lactate 28 mEq.

• Osmolarity: Isotonic at 273 mOsmol/L (similar to extracellular fluid ~280 mOsmol/L).

• pH: 6.6 (range 6.07.5).

• Indications: Electrolyte replacement, fluid replenishment, and supportive therapy after trauma, blood loss, or surgery.

• Administration: Intravenous infusion only; dosage depends on patients age, weight, and clinical condition. Pediatric patients (especially neonates and low-birthweight infants) require extra caution due to the risk of hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia.

• Cautions/Warnings:

  • Contraindicated for treatment of lactic acidosis.

  • Do not infuse simultaneously with blood products due to risk of coagulation.

  • Use with extreme caution in patients with hyperkalemia, renal failure, CHF, edema with sodium retention, hepatic insufficiency, or alkalosis.

  • Over-administration may result in dilution of serum electrolytes, fluid overload, or pulmonary edema.

  • Do not use flexible containers in series connections.
